MPR Lookup — extension privacy

What the extension does

MPR Lookup runs only in your browser. On pages you open, it looks for US-format phone numbers in the visible document (including common patterns in links and text). When it finds numbers, it may request public lookup results from mpreviews.com to see whether MPReviews has approved community data for that normalized 10-digit number.

What is sent to MPReviews

• Normalized phone digits (10-digit US) as query parameters to our read-only lookup endpoint (/api/lookup.php).
• Optional first-party telemetry (no third-party analytics scripts): a random anonymous client_id stored in the extension may be sent to /api/extension_telemetry.php for (a) install/update lifecycle, and (b) coarse usage signals such as opening the toolbar popup, using “Scan this tab,” or clicking through to open an MPReviews profile from the extension UI. These requests do not include the page URL, page text, or phone numbers.
• Standard HTTP / TLS metadata your browser always sends to any server (for example IP address in server logs as described in our main privacy policy).

The extension does not send full page HTML, passwords, form fields, or a list of every URL you visit to MPReviews—only the API requests triggered when phone-like strings are found on the current page.

What is stored on your device

• chrome.storage.local: the last successful lookup result so the toolbar popup can show the same summary without re-fetching until you scan again.

We do not use the extension to inject third-party advertising trackers or analytics scripts into pages.

Broad site access (“On all sites”)

To detect phone numbers on the pages you choose to open (including search engines and third-party directories), the extension may request permission to run on all websites. You can restrict site access in Chrome’s extension settings; if access is too narrow, automatic detection may not run on some pages.

Behavior we avoid

• No automatic redirect to MPReviews—you choose when to open the profile link.
• No fabricated counts or alerts; the overlay appears when the API returns a real match for approved data.
